Duke Men’s Basketball beats UNC in heartbreaking fashion; skims past No. 8 Florida State two days later
The Duke and UNC rivalry is one for the ages, they have been through many close battles throughout the years. However in this battle on the hardwood seemed to be tilted before the matchup even started. Duke entered the game ranked 7th in the nation sporting a 19-3 record while UNC limped into the game at 10-12. The 7th ranked team in the nation broke the hearts of the Tar Heels with a play from Tre Jones that you might tell your grandkids about. Duke was down with just 3 seconds left in regulation, Jones hit his first free throw then intentionally missed the second, Jones grabbed his own rebound and put up a last second jump shot to tie the game and send it into OT. In overtime Duke got their second miracle of the game to fall, again with Tre Jones at the line he misses his second free throw while Wendell Moore fights for the rebound and tips in the missed shot at the buzzer to beat UNC 98-96.

Just two days after a nail biter against Dukes bitter rivals, the University of North Carolina Tar Heels, they face off against the Florida State Seminoles in a true ACC Showdown. The Duke Blue Devils looked a little rusty tying their season high for most turnovers in a game with 21 but managed to grind it out in the end against the eighth ranked team in Division I college hoops. In series history, Florida State only has two wins over Duke while at Cameron Indoor Stadium which is insane considering the teams’ long standing history. The win for Duke Basketball was crucial as it was the difference between being No. 2 in the ACC and being No. 3. If things hold up, then Duke should not have to worry about pesky Florida State who will most likely be No. 3 in the ACC for the rest of the year.
