Matthew Hurt, Dukes 6-foot-9 forward announced he would be returning to Duke for his sophomore year via Instagram on Thursday. Last season, Hurt recorded 9.7 points and 3.8 rebounds per game while hitting a team-high 42 long-range buckets on a 39.3-percent mark. Hurt is one of Dukes best sharpshooters and will help again next year at stretching the floor.
Just a day after Hurt’s announcement, forward Wendell Moore Jr. also announced his return to the Duke University’s Blue Devils for his sophomore campaign in the same fashion as Hurt, by an Instagram post. The coronavirus has prevented us from seeing their true potential because the ACC and NCAA tournaments were cancelled.
In other news one of Duke’s best all time stars NBA player JJ Redick talked about how he almost quit basketball his sophomore year at Duke. On the “Pardon My Take” podcast Reddick says “It f***** me up,” Redick admitted. “It forced me to take on a persona that was not me. There are not too many 18-year-old, 19-year-old kids who are really comfortable with who they are. You’re still at the point in your life where you are trying to figure things out.” Reddick clearly struggled with the pressures of being at a big name school and being on great teams at such a young age. In another quote Reddick says he was ready to quit, “I wanted to quit my Sophomore year,” Redick told the hosts. “December of that year, I had my sisters meet me on campus, and they came over for dinner, and I was like ‘I don’t want to play anymore, this is not for me, it’s not fun.’ I really struggled those first two years — it was really hard for me.” Luckily for us we got to see JJ Redick have a long career in the NBA.
